The raiders, realising that they are outnumbered, attempt to form a shield wall. But the defenders are too many - the raiders fall back in good order, and then flee toward the border. Heiloran forms a sortie and tries to drive off the raisers. He buys some time, but is struck down and
falls unconscious, but is rescued by his companions. Wando and Kerolar manage to make it to the border.
Back at the Red Fort, the group decide to visit the Earth Spirit, and discover that the Two Pines are building a temple to honour her - something Kerolar thinks the Red Cows should have done.
Meanwhile, Brodi the chief announces that the feud is going badly for the Red Cows, and he proposes that the clan makes a peace blanket to make peace with the Emerald Swords.
Wando is outraged, and speaks in front of the clan, outlining all the crimes the Emerald Swords have committed against the Red Cows, and the meeting breaks up in acrimony. Brodi is furious with Wando, and threatens him with outlawry before storming off.
Around this time, the adventurers feel their strong dedication to Ildrina, the Earth spirit, fade away. Perhaps enough time has passed? Perhaps it is the result of the Two Pines building their temple? It is unknown.
A delegation of senior people from the tribe and from the Lunar occupying force assemble at Dangerford in an attempt to break the feud. The Lunars and Queen Avartha Wolfskinner have decided that the feud is too disruptive, and have agreed to Brodi's request for arbitration. The group travel with the clan rinfor the arbitration process, in order to show strong support for the Red Cows. Among the dignitaries are:
* Queen Avartha awolfskinner, Queen of the tribe
* Dwaran the Fat, chief of the Emerald Swords
* King Petrod - the king of the Emerald Swords tribe
* Gordius Solerus - the Lunar Commandant
* Jomas the Telmori-Killer (a well regarded Lunar soldier)
* Brodi, our chief
Finally, after days of debate, the judgement is given - the truce is made, but the Red Cows are fined 160 cows! The Emerald Cows smirk, and Brodi is utterly shocked. He has got his peace, but at an outrageous price. The clan grumble that the Lunars once again have favoured others over the Red Cows...
